The UX of Messaging Apps

Communication is a critical component of business success.

In this digital age, it is now easy to communicate with people because there are numerous messaging apps available.

However, these messaging apps have features that can be perplexing to users.

This occurs when the UX of these apps require improvement.

The following are two stories about people who used messaging apps but became annoyed and confused due to their poor UX.

‍

Never-ending Scrolling!

πŸ‘¨β€πŸ¦°Alex was on this messaging app,

scrolling back πŸ–±οΈ in a chat to look for a certain previous message.

He needed to get this information 🧐 that was messaged months ago in a group chat.

So he started to scroll back all the way to the time when the message was first sent. 🀞

It took him a while ⏱️, but he patiently continued to scroll back,

until he reached the date when the message was sent in the chat. πŸ—“οΈ

Before he could even copy the information,

someone in the group chat sent a new message ❗❗,

and the app scrolled back to the new one!! 😰

This got Alex super annoyed! 😠😠

Now, he would need to go and scroll back again to find πŸ‘€the message he was looking for.

If only app developers understood users well enough,

they could have prevented this experience from happening. πŸ‘Œ

It would have been helpful to add a feature...

that allows users to navigate to the new message while scrolling through the chat.πŸ’‘πŸ’‘

‍

What are we talking about again?

πŸ‘© Sam and her teammates communicate through this app they use at work.

She was on this messaging app one day... πŸ‘©β€πŸ’»

chatting with her workmate, Alice. Β πŸ‘©β€πŸ¦°

They were talking about so many things at once, πŸ“£

that they were both unsure which message their responses were for. ❓❓

Sam had to copy the message she was replying to...😩😩

so that Alice could understand and follow along. πŸ‘

This does not have to be the case if the app allows users to reply to specific messages in the chat.

❗❗It all comes down to the app's UX. ❗❗

It is always important in business to be able to easily communicate with those involved.

But this will be impossible if the messaging apps used for communication have a poor UX

That is why app developers need to make sure to understand the users and provide the best solutions for them.
